Christmas Day

Today was fun. The kids woke us up bright and early to go check out what Santa brought them. Kylie got a dollhouse, play food for her kitchen, a Moose (what she asked for), a Hopper, Silly Bands, Strawberry Shortcake bandaids, and candy. Korbin got a Thomas the Train set, a Hopper, a candy cane (what he asked for), a Woody harmonica, Silly Bands, Cars bandaids, and candy. From us, she got; Dora bath foam, a watch, and a Strawberry Shortcake doll. He got Cars bath foam, a finger skate board, and a finger motor bike.

We let them play for a while and ate a big breakfast. Later, we went to the movies to see Tangled. It was a great movie! The kids loved it. We came home and played the Wii and sang Karaoke. It was a good day.

Christmas Eve

Today was a little different than a normal Christmas Eve. We spent the day unpacking boxes and setting up the kids' rooms. In the evening, we all sat down and opened one present each. Kylie got to pick out who got what (center of attention, little miss excited). I got a reindeer made from popsicle sticks, Aaron got a pinecone decorated like a Christmas tree in a pot, Korbin got a toy story tent for his bed (we got at the thrift store for free!) Kylie opened the gift from Uncle Adam and Aunt Krystina, it was a Disney Rummikub game. I can't wait to play it tomorrow!

Progress

We have moved in to our new house on post. I'm liking it more and more each day. We got our household goods 3 days ago! It's starting to look like a home now. There are still tons and tons of boxes everywhere! We painted Korbin's room grey and we are decorating it like a garage with a car bed! I found a dresser at a thrift store and painted it black and red to look like a craftsman tool chest. We painted Kylie's room hot pink and we are using black furniture. I found a nightstand at the thrift store, painted it black and painted zebra stripes on the fronts of the drawers.

We got our van yesterday! As soon as we brought it home, Aaron started winterizing it while I unloaded boxes.

Exciting News

Today, we got a call that a house became available and we could move in immediately! This was great news, because I'm so tired of living in a hotel. We checked out the house and got the keys and move in tomorrow! We're so excited! I'll post pictures later...

Friday and Saturday

Friday, we went to the gym on post for the Christmas tree lighting. It was fun, the kids loved doing all the free activities!

....................................

Saturday, we went to North Pole for the Christmas in Ice Park. Oh my gosh, it was so fun, but SO COLD! I thought we were dressed warm enough, but nope, we weren't. But that didn't stop us from having fun! The slides were awesome! We went so fast! I'm loving all these free activities around here! There were a ton of really cool ice sculptures, it's amazing how detailed everything was.

...........................................

Our household goods arrived here yesterday!!! That's so exciting, but too bad they have to sit in storage until we get a house... I'm really excited about our decision to live on post. We visited a guy who works with Aaron, who lives down the street from the house they are putting us in. Man, they are really nice! And big! Heated garage and heated floors, too! That's a plus! And the utilities are all included! Can't beat it! Maybe it'll be ready before Christmas!!!!!! Fingers crossed!

Aaron and I took the kids to Fred Meyer so we could Christmas shop for the kids and they could play for the free hour of childcare in the store! Man, I love that! I noticed that the prices there are not so cheap, we ended up not getting much.

North Pole

Tonight, we visited North Pole and The Santa Claus House. Before going to see Santa, we stopped and ate at our favorite family restaurant, TACO BELL! =)

The Santa Claus House was so neat and the kids LOVED it! Kylie knew right away that this was the "real" Santa because he was at THE NORTH POLE! They were so cute when they approached him. Kylie got tongue tied with where she was from. She said, Oklahoma... noooo Colorado.... nooooo, I don't know.

Santa's Reindeer!

When Santa asked Kylie what she wanted for Christmas, she said, a Duck and a Moose. She brought along her Class Pet, Dineega, the Moose. I guess that's what was on her mind at the time. Korbin was holding a candy cane that he had just got from Santa's helper and his response was that he wanted a candy cane. I guess they were star stricken! I later asked them in the car if they really wanted those things they said, they said yes! .....It's gonna be an easy one this year! wink wink.

After we left North Pole, we went to see what Walmart was like and surprisingly, the prices aren't that bad. They are about the same as what we are used to.

Some pics from today

Housing.... decisions decisions decisions

Today we talked to the housing office on post and I think we've agreed that living on post is a better option than buying a home, even though we found a great house yesterday that we just loved. Financially, it's a better move and if Aaron gets deployed, I will feel better about the maintenance of the house not being relied on by me. I don't know about if I will move back home while he deploys, I'll make that decision when the time comes. The house that we've been attached to is brand new and the same size as what we are used to.

Cool Stuff...

Look! This place IS normal!!!! =)

Only a couple hours of sunlight a day! Had to take a picture!
What are we gonna do today???
Our room...
I took this from my hotel window at 8:00am! Crazy.

No power

This morning, I woke up at 6:00 to no power in our hotel. It came back on and went back off several times, causing the kids' sound machine to go from the waterfall sound to the Rainforest. This woke the kids up, hearing the birds chirping very loudly. I ran in there to turn it off and, stretching, Kylie says (eyes still closed), why are we in a Rainforest???

The power stayed off for 3 1/2 hours, coming on as we were walking out the door for church. I took a candlelit shower, letting my hair dry naturally, and did my makeup to the light of Aaron's phone. Kylies light bright did the rest of the lighting of the room. :-)

We visited a church this morning, University Baptist Church. We will continue to search for the church God has for our family.

And here it is 4:30 and the power is still going on and off. I wonder what's going on!

The Beginning

I am starting this blog to journal this new adventure for our family.

Our flight from Dallas to Seattle:
Not too bad. Kylie did crafts and Korbin slept most of the time. We had the very back row of the plane, right by the bathrooms. During the 4 hour flight, three people run back to the bathroom with their hand over their mouths! What's up with that?

Funny things
- Kylie got a travel sized Light Bright for Christmas..... At the beginning of the flight as soon as they turn the lights out and it gets really dark, the Attendant says over the intercom, "Please feel free to turn on your overhead
lights." Kylie says at a really loud voice, "Don't turn on your lights! I have a Light Bright!!!!" Everyone laughed.

- Kylie had to say hi and talk to everyone that came back to the bathroom. A little girl, Victoria, was waiting for the bathroom and helped Kylie color her picture. Kylie let her keep it. About 20 minutes later, Kylie asks the flight attendant to take a page of stickers up to her. So he went up the isle saying, "Victoria! Victoria! Where's Victoria?" He gave her the stickers and she told him to tell Kylie, "Thank You." He
returns to Kylie and tells her thank you. Kylie screams out as loud as she can... "YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!" Everyone on the plane laughed... again.=)

We had a couple hours in Seattle before the flight to Fairbanks. Kylie met a really sweet 12 year old girl, Shandaigh. They became 'best friends' right away! They did crafts together while we waited to board our plane. We realized that we were seated right behind them! How cool. I really enjoyed talking and getting to know her mom, Amber, who is from a town about 100 miles from Fairbanks. She gave me all kinds of information about FB. We exchanged info and plan to stay in touch!

When we got to FB, we went to baggage claim to get our 6 boxes and 6 suitcases! Crazy, I know! Aaron rented our car, a brand new Ford Flex. Amber's friend, who picked her up, got ahold of someone from base who could help us out with
transporting our luggage to our hotel on base.

The minute we stepped outside was sooo crazy! It was -23 and it was chokingly cold!!! It froze my nostrils instantly! The kids loved it, immediately throwing snow at each other! =)

The next morning we spent the day organizing our room and stuff. We drove around and explored FB. Gas is $3.66/gallon!! We went to Kylie's school and registered her. She starts Monday in North Pole. We went to the PX and Commissary to get some stuff for the room. Milk was $4.75! When we got back to the hotel, we wondered how we would get all the groceries up to the room.... Aaron found a
shopping cart in the parking lot and yes... he pushed it all the way TO OUR ROOM! Gotta love him!!!!! It IS smart, I guess....

Is is so beautiful here!!! I'm loving it so far. I think it's so cool how in almost every parking lot, there are posts with outlets to plug your car in. After getting cars winterized, a plug is added and hangs out the front of the hood. We carry an extension cord to plug it in. I've noticed that everyone here is so nice! I have not come across one mean person. Everyone is so overly friendly to us, getting so excited to know that we just moved here. They start telling us what we need to do and see, how nice.

In search of a house:
We met with our Realtor, Traci, today who showed us 5 houses. I was not overly impressed with any of them. Everything is so expensive here! Maybe we'll have better luck tomorrow....
